Causing A Commotion!

Last night was so much fun. Wei Ren invited us to his place for a BBQ. Meng was allegedly broke so it was just me and Jireh. Turns out that the BBQ was at his neighbour's place, which set ourselves up for a potentially awkward situation but everything went well. Gorged ourselves on beef, chicken wings, pork, the loveliest sotong, MANGO PUDDING and DURIAN PUFFS which were really out of this world. And yes WR, they do remind me of ice cream too!

Had a lovely chat with this 17 year old girl in RJ. She had a sore throat and sounded very raspy, like Tina Turner. Advised her about JC, attempted to enlighten her on Diva music. We all have our specialities. I excel in anything Britney, Jennifer or Cher. Jireh's good for Mariah (although I'm better), and we can always depend on WR for Kylie tidbits. Like where she's gonna buy herself a brand new pair of TITS. I kid.

Twas a pity she couldn't join us back in WR's place. But perhaps it's good she didn't because we descended into pure faggotry the moment we got to his room. Dancing to Vouge at the '90 VMAs. Or trying to. Jireh does it pretty well. It's not exactly a hard dance to learn, bar the part where she shuffles her feet to and fro. Some of the hand gestures are rather strange la. Like killing flies.

WR was summoned downstairs by his mum to sing for all the aunties. He did a pretty good job with a whole bunch of old, sentimental, depressing English songs. His mum is so cool la! Haha. I like his mum. We put on Madonna's Blonde Ambition LD after that and all the aunties were complementing her performing skills and her figure, bar one who found her muscled arms unappealing. Watched Mariah too. And then they all left and we 3 had the room to ourselves. Back to Blonde Ambition. It was so good la! My goodness. Tried to do the Vouge dance again. And then ALL 3 OF US proceeded to dance to Causing A Commotion! I love the boxing-esque thing she was doing with her hands. A little like the Hung Up krump no? Literally dance throughout the whole song, along with M, Nikki and Donna. My chest was PAINFUL after that!

Went back up to his room and we just started talking. About boyfriends, relationships, friends, the benefits of comming out, Jaron (who IS cute!), and sundry topics which I can't quite seem to recall now =(

TERRIBLE MEMORY!

Anyway, got back really late. Had 3 hours of sleep. Woke up at 8AM to go for Law Admissions Essay. I enjoyed writing on the topic. Made me realise that it was then - drawing logical conclusions and forming my own arguments from the case study, gathering my thoughts and opinions together on paper, structuring the essay, writing it all down in a mad rush to beat the clock till my hand was painful, that I was in my element. This is what I am most comfortable doing. I'd love to study business too but the essay just made me realise, that is MY forte. My raison d etre. So we'll see what happens.

Sinful Delights

Desert at NYDC. Delectable brownies, cheesecake, cream, ice-cream and chocolate syrup. The joys of being skinny. One can just consume prodigious amounts of food and feel guiltless. Same thing can't be said for Meng and Zuch. Speaking of those two, God bless them. Don't know what I'd do without their company these days. It's hard to believe what life was like before we started to hang out. Throw in Jireh and you pretty much have the group that keeps me sane during those dreary weekends. The old gang is so busy with girlfriends and boyfriends and...computer games to really spend much time with. Lena's an exception =). I'm sure after NS is over and we're back to studying, we'll see each other more often but right now it is somewhat frustrating to be unable to see them for weeks on end.

Double degree @ SMU or Law? The question vexes me to no end. I'd much prefer the SMU campus to the OLD SMU campus in Bukit Timah (where Law will be shifting to soon). Now I know that should never be a valid reason but I am a shallow person. Ever the optimist, I prefer analysing the drawbacks of either route. Math versus dry, dry text. Both sound painful. I don't know what to do-oo.

I miss having someone to kiss. Not just anyone, mind. That special someone. That toxic kiss. Still magical. Outside the toilet at Happy. Behind the dance floor to the strains of Toxic. That quickie (that turned out to be a longie) opposite the bus stop at Park Mall. I miss the kisses not the kissers. Haha. One day Simon, one day.

Did I?

Did I leave my faculty to love with you?
In that not-too-distant past that seems to have faded away
It's not easy to articulate
But perhaps nothing is.

Passion flowed through these veins once.
A desperate, yearning sort
Focused only on the unattainable.

I find myself in a much happier situation now,
Free from the grief and frustration.

Yet I suspect that I left a part of me behind there, with you.

Sex

Is overrated. Ok the reality can be *pretty* mind-blowing - moaning, sweat, saliva, having your G-spot hit repeatedly till orgasm. Yes. That's lovely. But the aftermath of that is horrible when you're doing it with someone you don't know and don't particularly like. Now you may ask me, why have sex with someone you're not attracted to? That's a question I have to ask MYSELF.

Casual sex is overrated.

Movies movies movies. This time it was Transamerica and Take The Lead. Felicity Huffman's performance was flawless. As Meng said, she actually *really* looked like a man in some of the scenes. The whole road-trip concept was rather shaky, but these different bits contributed to giving you the full picture, of the intense feelings someone in that position would inevitably face. There were moments of comedy, especially when they meet Bree's family in Phoenix. However, this movie rested squarely on Felicity's performance. She pulled it off with aplomb, dildo and all. And the actor who played Toby was seriously hot tamale! I would pay him for hot hot sex any day!

On a more serious note, Transamerica depicted very pertinent issues, especially in this day and age of rising religious conservatism in the States, where being gay or transgendered immediately entitles you to condemnation and discrimination from certain quarters. It makes me sick. This isn't something that people CHOOSE. Just as someone born black should never be discriminated against, someone who is gay does not deserve to be put down, ridiculed and humiliated, with moronic evangelicals placing obstacles to their lives at every turn. But then again, racism isn't dead either. So really, everyone (myself included) still has a long way to go before this world is ever a harmonious place where people get along. I don't think it will ever be. Huamns have a natural proclivity toward conflict and discrimination.

Take The Lead was more fun to watch I suppose. Although watching Felicity Huffman really just draws you into the movie. Take The Lead has lots of dancing. All sorts. Tango, rhumba, foxtrot, salsa, hip-hop, and a mixture of all the above. Oh I just realised that my two movies are linked once again! See the post below if you don't understand. Both feature various DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. Oh these housewvies. The one in question here is Alfre Woodard, who plays Betty Applewhite on Wisteria Lane. But never mind about that. Her school is located in Harlem, catering almost exclusively to minority kids (lots of blacks, hispanics and the token asian). This is a world apart from the white, rich students who attend the dance school that Antonio Banderas' character has opened many, many streets downtown.

He believes that these delinquents can be reformed through ballroom dancing, which does sound like a ridiculous idea doesn't it? And that's what everyone else seems to think initially. But as time goes on, he is proven right and dancing proves to be a salvation of these youth who supposedly have no future. Very cliche. And as Meng said, some parts of the story are rather unbelievable, even though it was based on a true story. But if you put these points aside, along with the fact that the movie seems to drag on at times, then it's a pretty decent watch.

I sound like some movie reviewer. It's not my intetion to turn this blog into some movie review website, like many other people habitually do. I have more movies to watch now. Rented Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Crash and Legally Blonde =p

I must say that I'm still not happy with the way my life is going. Still very...mellow. In reaction to what? I don't know. Failed relationships? I was the one who chose to end both and don't regret either decision one bit. I've got friends who are reliable and well, not so reliable, I live a pretty comfortable, sheltered life. I don't know. WHAT is missing? And please don't tell me it's God. I am Christian. I do consider myself Christian. I just wonder if Jesus does. Religion vexes me greatly and so I choose to brush it to one side, in the vain hope that one day everything will be solved. Of course I know that isn't true, but I am entitled to fool's hope no?

Keep It GAY (yay)

Wacthced The Producers and Inside Man these past 2 weeks. The Producers was great fun. OTT camp, thrilling, hilarious, just a shameless frolick in faggotry. The actors are brilliant and it was a riot to see George from Desperate Housewives try his hand at being a prancing giggly Queen. And boy did he do a great job! "QUICK, get back in the CLOSET!" I can't be arsed to do a proper review. It was a great movie and every self-respecting homosexual worth his Gucci shades and Louis bag should most certainly watch this one. You won't regret it. And if you do, boo hoo hoo, too fucking bad.

I just realised that both movies have connected in some bizzare way. No, nothing to do with the fact that one movie stars a gay actor (Nathan Lane) and the other stars a rumoured-to-be gay actress (the fabulous Jodie Foster). You see, The Producers' main plot revolved around deliberately staging the worst play ever known to mankind as a means of making big money. And Play Zero was Springtime for Hitler. The "certain interest" that Jodie Foster's character sought to protect in Inside Man had something to do with Nazi Germany.

Just looking at Jodie Foster in her all-white suit with platinum blonde hair coiffed into a smart ponytail was worth the $9.50. I'm sorry, not in the mood to think and form sentences to write out a decent review either. Let's just say that while the storyline may seem a tad predictable at times, there are sufficient twists and turns to keep one interested in the developments. This one might prove a tad...difficult...for those unable to grasp non-chronological scenes. And I honestly do feel that the culture of guilt and politically-correctness people STILL feel over the holocaust is seriously misguided. It happened, it was terrible, MOVE ON! I'm certainly not anti-Sematic in any way, shape or form, but the West's obsession with how deplorable the Holocaust was and how anyone who had the slightest thing to do with it should be crucified really is getting very old.

Having said all that, I wholeheartedly recommend The Producers to any discerning viewer with an open mind and a proclivity to laughter, and Inside Man to the average movie-goer who just likes a good suspense thriller with elements surprise and some wit.

Love

What is love, if not some ephemeral infatuation
A fleeting lust that surely fades away
The longer you stay, the more you yearn for freedom
A toxic gas, so enchanting
Starting out gloriously, ending ignominiously

The cynic in me was never inherent.
He was bred through experience. And pain.
But now he's ready to try,
To try and love again.

One

My song of the month. Everyone should hear this one. Mary J Blige feat. U2. And yes I know that this was originally done by U2 (for 1991's Achtung Baby), but I've always preferred a female vocalist anyway. The blend of Mary and Bono's vocals on this works really splendidly too. It's positively uplifting, yet has this tinge of sadness to it.

Some of my favourite lines

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame

You say
One love
One life
It’s one need, in the night
One love
Get to share it
It leaves you darling, if you don’t care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

Well it’s too late, tonight
To drag the past out into the light

We’re one, but we’re not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other

One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Well did I ask too much, more than a lot
You gave me nothing now it’s all I got
We’re one
But we’re not the same
We hurt each other
Then we do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love is a higher law
Love is a temple
Love is a higher law
You ask for me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can’t keep holding on
To what you got
Cause all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should

One life
With each other
Sisters and my brothers

One life
But we’re not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other

One

It's a poignant song if there ever was one. Living proof that songs really don't need to have fancy words to be meaningful. Just a whole lot of sincerity and heart.
